MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – Martinsburg Radiology Associates recently announced the addition of Vivek Padha, MD, board certified radiologist, to their City Hospital based practice.
Padha recently completed a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. Prior to entering his radiology residency at Yale, Padha enjoyed a successful career in family medicine and served as a major in the United States Army Medical Corps.
As an interventional radiologist, Padha is involved in the treatment of the patient as well as the diagnosis of disease. Interventional radiology is a subspecialty of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using x-ray or image guidance. According to Padha, the images provide a roadmap for the radiologist to guide instruments through the body to treat areas containing disease. By minimizing trauma to the patient , interventions can reduce infection rates, recovery time and shorten hospital stays. These procedures have been very effective in treating many diseases including of certain types of cancers, kidney and liver disease, vascular disease, and woman's health issues.
“The demand for interventional radiology in our community has increased dramatically over the past two years,” stated John Blanco, MD, City Hospital radiologist and partner in Martinsburg Radiology. “We are pleased that Dr. Padha has joined us to lead the development and enhancement of our interventional services here at City Hospital,” he added.
With the addition of Padha, new interventional radiology procedures are now being offered at City Hospital. For more information, call the radiology department at 304.264.1211.
