Tournament Nets $53,000 For City Hospital’s Cardiac Cath Lab
In 1988, the inaugural Gateway Foundation Golf Classic netted nearly $18,000 to benefit City Hospital. Twenty three years and over $1 million later, the Bernie Hutzler Memorial Gateway Golf Classic, renamed last year in memory of charter committee member and event organizer Dr. Bernie Hutzler, netted over $53,000 to benefit City Hospital.
The 23rd annual golf classic, sponsored by the City Hospital Foundation, was held on June 7 at the Woods Resort under the leadership of Co-Chairs Chip Hensell and Jeff Petrucci. The winning team of Ken Juskowich, Larry Thornton, Ron Collins and Mike Mills shot a 60 to earn the overall first place finish.
The winning team selected equipment for the new cardiac cath lab under construction at City Hospital as the recipient of the tournament proceeds. “As we celebrate our 23rd annual Gateway Golf Classic, we are proud to continue our tradition of funding patient care equipment and new services at City Hospital,” stated Petrucci during remarks at the awards reception held Monday evening. “We all work on committees to organize different golf tournaments, but this is the premier tournament for the area and it benefits us all,” he added.
Petrucci announced that Montie Hicks of BB&T and Chris Colbert of United Bank will assist him in heading up next year’s event. The 2011 Bernie Hutzler Memorial Gateway Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, June 6 at The Woods Resort.
