Program helps people make healthful eating decisions and maintain a healthy weight
Martinsburg, WV, September 27, 2012 — Everyone knows that there are definite benefits to eating a well-balanced, nutritious diet and exercising regularly, but many people just don’t know where to start. The Eat Well for Life programs teaches participants to live it, not diet.
Participants can enroll in Eat Well for Life I, offered at WVUH-East, City Hospital and Jefferson Memorial campuses, through Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. In this program they can learn about the actions they need to take in order to make healthy lifestyle decisions that can result not only in weight management, but in decreased health risks.
Eat Well for Life I is a lifestyle improvement program promoting wellness and long-term weight management through increasing physical activity and healthy eating. Participants learn to make healthful food choices and are encouraged to adopt the nutrition practices needed to achieve a balanced lifestyle and long-term weight management.
WVUH-East is proud to offer Eat Well for Life as well as other prevention programs through Highmark’s Preventive Health Alliance. The programs fit within our mission to improve the health status of Eastern Panhandle residents by providing high-quality health and wellness services.
Some of the health benefits of exercise include reduced risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease, stronger bones, and an improved memory, immune system, and sleep. Maybe the most persuasive benefit is that studies show that mood improves after exercise.
WVUH-East is a regional, not-for-profit, healthcare system established in January 2005 to serve West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle. The system includes City Hospital, Jefferson Memorial Hospital and all of their affiliates.
