Jefferson Memorial Installs Fetal Monitoring System

RANSON, W.Va. – West Virginia University Hospitals-East Jefferson Memorial Hospital recently upgraded the fetal monitoring system in the hospital’s obstetrics unit.

After several months of installation and training, a new GE Central Fetal Monitoring system went live on November 29. The additional technology allows the nurses and physicians to remotely view fetal monitor strips from multiple locations throughout the unit.

Up to five fetal monitors can be viewed at once on one screen. Additionally, physicians can view the patient’s fetal monitor strip from their office across the street.  “It’s a great asset for all of our staff and adds another level of safety for our patients,” stated Dr. James Murray, board certified obstetrician/gynecologist with the WVU Women’s Health Center in Ranson.

According to Sandy Martin, OB nurse manager, the additional fetal monitoring system along with the infant security system that was installed two years ago gives Jefferson Memorial Hospital all of the same technology that any large hospital would offer it patients. “There is no longer a need to travel out of the area for maternity care,” Martin said, adding, “We look forward to patients delivering their babies at Jefferson.”

OB Staff Member Megan Nesslerodt is shown with the new fetal monitoring system at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
