Phase II Renovations Completed, $11 Million Project
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – Officials at West Virginia University Hospitals-East’s City Hospital hosted an open house today to showcase phase II of the hospital’s $11 million emergency department expansion and renovation project.
Phase I, a 17,000 square foot addition to the hospital’s existing emergency department, opened earlier this year in May. Since that time, contractors have been working on a complete remodel of the old emergency department space. 
According to Chief Administrative Officer Anthony P. Zelenka, the total project is now complete. “Our emergency department at City Hospital will open to patients on November 1 with 40 beds. This gives us the capacity for growth to handle up to 65,000 patient visits per year,” he said. Current volumes average 45,000 patient visits per year.
The new emergency department features all private treatment rooms, a new trauma room equipped with state-of-the-art technology, a spacious waiting area with a separate pediatric waiting area and an expanded triage area.
“With our renewed focus on customer service and patient satisfaction, our ultimate goal is to decrease patient wait time in our emergency department,” Zelenka commented. “At the same time, we will always strive to provide high quality emergency medical services to our patients and communities we serve,” he added.
