West Virginia University Hospitals-East offers Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield Eat Well for Life I & II Programs to Encourage Healthy Lifestyles by focusing on Nutrition and Exercise

Program helps people make healthful eating decisions and maintain a healthy weight

(Martinsburg, WV, January 12, 2011) — Everyone knows that there are definite benefits to eating a well-balanced, nutritious diet and exercising regularly, but many people just don’t know where to start. The Eat Well for Life programs teaches participants to live it, not diet.
Participants can enroll in Eat Well for Life I and/or Eat Well for Life II, offered at WVUH-East, City Hospital and Jefferson Memorial campuses, through Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield. In this program they can learn about the actions they need to take in order to make healthy lifestyle decisions that can result not only in weight management, but in decreased health risks.
Eat Well for Life Iis a lifestyle improvement program promoting wellness and long-term weight management through increasing physical activity and healthy eating. Participants learn to make healthful food choices and are encouraged to adopt the nutrition practices needed to achieve a balanced lifestyle and long-term weight management.
Eat Well for Life IIis a lifestyle improvement program that follows Eat Well for
Life I. The program focuses on planning well-balanced meals, adopting mindful eating practices, increasing physical activity as well as making healthful eating choices when dining out.
WVUH-East is proud to offer Eat Well for Life as well as other prevention programs through MSBCBS’s Preventive Health Alliance. The programs fit within our mission to improve the health status of Eastern Panhandle residents by providing high-quality health and wellness services.
Some of the health benefits of exercise include reduced risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease, stronger bones, and an improved memory, immune system, and sleep. Maybe the most persuasive benefit is that studies show that mood improves after exercise.
Eat Well for Life I will be offered:

·         Mondays, January 24 through February 14, 2011 at 6pm at the McCormack Center on the campus of City Hospital or
·         Thursdays, January 27 through March 3, 2011 at 12noon in the Main Building of City Hospital or
·         Wednesdays, March 2 through March 23, 2011 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Eat Well for Life II will be offered

·         Wednesdays, April 6 though May 4, 2011 at 6pm at the McCormack Center on the campus of City Hospital.

There is no fee or facility membership required for Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield members to participate in the Eat Well for Life I or II program and only a nominal fee for non-Mountain State members who sign up. The professional staff at WVUH-East has been trained by Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield to administer this weight management program.
