WVUH-East Offers New Ornish Program: The Spectrum

A scientifically proven program to help participants feel better,
live longer, lose weight and gain health.

Coronary heart disease is the number one cause of death in America and is often the direct result of unhealthy lifestyle habits. Genes are not our fate. The choices we make each day in our diet and lifestyle have a direct influence on how our genetic predisposition is expressed. Our genetic fate can be altered by the lifestyle choices we make.
The Spectrum is a 6-week group-based educational program based on the research of Dr. Dean Ornish. It is for individuals who want to prevent disease, reduce their risk for developing chronic conditions or learn lifestyle changes that can help manage diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and cancer. The program combines the tenets of the Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease and his latest book, “The Spectrum.” This program, previously offered as the Ornish Advantage Program, is updated with research from Dr. Ornish’s latest book, “The Spectrum.” The Spectrum provides a personalized approach to customize a way of eating, managing stress, exercising and being socially connected, based on each individual’s preferences, needs and genetic predispositions.
WVUH-East, Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield, West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield have partnered to offer residents of West Virginia to experience the latest program from Dr. Dean Ornish, The Spectrum.  A free information session will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 6pm in Suite 2500 of the McCormack Center on the campus of City Hospital, Inc. A new session of The Spectrum will be offered Mondays, October 25 – November 29 from 6-8pm in the 2nd floor conference room of the McCormack Center on the campus of City Hospital.
Attendees of the information session will have the opportunity to learn about the four components of The Spectrum Program – nutrition, stress management, exercise and social support – and insurance coverage and eligibility requirements. To register for the free information session or the next session of The Spectrum class call 264-1287, ext. 1814 by Oct 6, 2010. Call now to reserve your spot today.
