American Cancer Society Resources

Cancer Support and Education
The American Cancer Society and the WVUH-East Regional Cancer Program offer a Resource Room, located on the First Floor of the McCormack Center (on City Hospital's Campus).

Typically open weekdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Resource Room is staffed by volunteers and offers free information on various programs, services, and a wide variety of patient education for cancer patients and their loved ones. HEROS — Cancer Survivor/Patient Support Group
Meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the McCormack Center 2nd Floor Conference Room. For more information, call 304-260-1477 or 304-274-2723. (No meetings are held during the months of June, July and August.)

I Can Cope Series — FREE
A 7-week educational series taught by medical professionals and community representatives for people facing cancer and their families, friends and loved ones. For information on the upcoming series, call 304-260-1477.

Look Good, Feel Better — FREE
Specifically targeted to women cancer patients, this program is supported by the cosmetic industry. The two-hour session allows women to be treated to a relaxing afternoon where they learn skin care and make-up applications, as well as demonstrations on hair/wig techniques.

Man to Man Prostate Cancer/Awareness Support Group
For prostate cancer patients, survivors and their spouses. The group meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the McCormack Center's 2nd Floor Conference Room. Call 304-260-1477 for details.

Patient Resource Navigator
Offers patients and their families guidance as they weave their way through cancer diagnosis and treatment. Examples of assistance include: helping patients learn more about their specific type of cancer and treatment options, finding resources for transportation, financial assistance, and other expressed concerns, connecting them to American Cancer Society programs and support groups, as well as providing emotional support. The program is offered on a part-time basis. To reach the Patient Navigator, call 304-264-1287, ext. 2013. Please leave a message if she is not immediately available.

Reach to Recovery
Support services for all breast cancer diagnosis by trained volunteer breast cancer survivors.
Call the American Cancer Society at (800) 227-2345 and you will be personally contacted by a local Jefferson or Berkeley County Reach to Recovery volunteer.

Road to Recovery
Provides transportation to treatment for cancer patients. For details call (800) 227-2345 or
304-260-1477. Volunteer drivers are also needed to accommodate our growing requests.
